INTRODUCTION

Welcome! I’m so glad you stopped by! I am excited to share with you a retrospective of my work spanning 23 years including my newest adventures in art/creations. This project couldn’t have come alive without the encouragement and support from my brother Raffaello Gardelli or without the help of web designer Fritz Waser in Switzerland. Both coached me through this process as I learned how to navigate in the computer age.

Let me tell you a little bit what I’ve been up to. As some of you already know, I was given a second chance at life, when a total stranger then, now friend/brother and fellow artist Franklin Bolster, offered me his Kidney, after a one time meeting at his art show. In the 4.5 years on Dialysis, stripped of all possibility of doing much, I surrendered and my dream of living and surviving as a full-time artist came true. My work was selling, thankfully and jobs kept finding me.

BOOK ILLUSTRATIONS

I started Amaras Quest when I was in Dialysis for Kidney Failure. It is an autobiographical Fairytale based on events, which took place in my life, stirred in a cauldron with some extra sp ice and Fairy dust.

This endeavor lead me to the writing of a trilogy and a series of children’s books that I am currently still working on.

My illustrations below were commissioned by writer Helle Brissson's angel book, to be published in Denmark and

Elisabeth Anne Hill’s Books, ‘The Circle of Life’ (now self published) and

'The Gift'

If you have a story in mind that misses images to go with it, feel free to contact me. My original Illustrations of the books mentioned above are not for sale, but available as Giclee prints on canvas. This site will give you a lot of ideas on which way you can go, be it illustration or sketches, paintings or photography you choose for your endeavor. I’d love to work with you.

Taking full advantage of my renewed health I returned to school to revive my old passion of Photography and bring it up to date into the digital age.

I recently completed classes in Digital Photography and Photoshop, were I had so much fun doing Photo-shoots of people in every aspect of their life, from birth to death to fashion and diverse celebrations. You will be able to view my entire Photography Portfolio on my upcoming web-site www.lenagardelliphotography.com I can hardly wait to show you the rest!

Here is a peek of what’s to come.

Photography was always so close to me in life, that it is only now that I can really ‘see’ it. It is often so with the things we want to do most.

If it weren’t for my childhood friend Zsuzso in Hungary, whom pointed out to me; “You and your camera! You have been taking pictures since we were children!” I might not have had the epiphany (coupled with goose bumps) that this is what I have to do! It was clear to me that I had to make the bold career move after so many years in fine art, to shift to Photography.

Besides, as I reflect back, photography was always connected to important milestones in my life. When my mother Magdolna Ban met my father Lamberto Gardelli she was a photo-reporter. They met, when he was conducting at the Opera House in Budapest. As a kid I would sneak in to the darkroom and watch her for hours, in amazement, as images came to life in the developing trays. Occasionally I was allowed to move the trays and so help in the developing process. I loved seeing the images appear from the blank page – gradually evolving from darkness as they were exposed to light.

The wonder of the process of creating photographic images continues to intrigue me and is an unending source of inspiration for my work.

In whatever way I create, I love creating books. Be it Book-binding and then filling a hand made book with sketches, paintings, writing and pictures, or be it a Photography Book filled with images accompanied with words. Making Books ties all my ‘loves’ together. My love to create images and the stories they tell.
